Hi JOY! I remember our first meeting where you talked about wanting to do this work. I sent your compelling reflection on "struggle" to our 58 team members at Hope 4 2 Morrow, a substance use treatment facility. It's a common thread in the hearts of clients who seek to reclaim their lives AS WELL AS a theme in those who are sojourners alongside of them! Phew!

Recently subscribed to your Substack and I'm so glad I did! The world feels so heavy, full of devastation and loss and division and hatred and violence. Focusing on our small corner of the universe, with whatever actions feel most aligned, without seeing results, is sometimes all we can do. 🤍

Your work with those girls is so honorable. I've been wanting to do something similar, and this might be the nudge I needed. 🙏🏼

Wow. This is a good reminder--the importance of pressing on without a guarantee of results, even when you know you can't solve what feels crushingly unsolvable. I read this right after finishing a piece on a shooting I witnessed, and it was what I needed. Thank you.
